The day has finally passed. The prom was a pretty good success overall. We had plenty of volunteers, which was a bit of a surprise. I knew of some of the people we had helping but I am glad that we had more than we needed. We started off with some announcements and then started dinner. After dinner, we showed the video we worked on first semester and then started the dancing. We didn't raise as much money as we wanted to but we still raised more than we needed. We were able to get $1550 in total from all of our sponsors. We had a great time planning this and we also enjoyed ourselves throughout that night. I would recommend this project for someone who is looking to have a good time and help out people at the same time.

The prom is quickly approaching. This Saturday is the big day and our group can't be more excited. However, there are still a few last minute things that we need to get done. Caralee has bought the decorations that we are going to use so that is now out of the way. We have came up with a schedule/outline for what the night should look like. The whole picture taking thing might change some stuff throughout the night. Mainly because we don't know exactly when people will want to talk pictures. Other than that, the schedule should be just fine. Our list of volunteers has also filled up. We shouldn't have any issues with help throughout the night, as long as everyone shows up. We are meeting with Caralee this week to make sure everything will go smoothly and that we don't need to do anything else. We are also meeting with Brad Rusche of LifeShare to assemble to presentation we want to put together. The presentation should be the last major thing we need to do. We are beyond excited to see what the night will bring and look forward to this Saturday!
A lot has happened since the last time i have blogged. Since then we have gotten a few sponsorships from places like Sugar Creek Real Estate and Hoosier Hear Gear. We have about one more week to try to get more money to help pay for the prom. Two days ago, our group met with Caralee and Brian (the chef). We discussed what we would be having to eat and drink that night and wanted to make sure we were all on the same page. That night, we are having a taco bar with chips and salsa. Those two things are relatively cheap and they are easy for the staff to make and serve. The residents will go up to get their meat (this is the buffet aspect). The toppings for their tacos will be on each table for them to choose from. Some of the residents are struggle to walk so having the toppings on their table in the first place will make it so much easier. The next step would be to finalize the sponsors so we can out their logos on the flyer so we can get the word out. We're down to crunch time and so far everything is going pretty smoothly. Our group is looking forward to this event and everything that it becomes.
These past couple weeks have been interesting over at Woodland Terrace. Last week our group passed out valentines to the assisted living members. After we passed out the valentines, we had a short 30 minute meeting with Caralee about the prom. We talked about what our flyer was going to look like. The idea of making tickets to sell also came up and we decided to go that route. We also had to edit our letter to sponsors a bit as well. Cole wanted us to incorporate some way to pay for one of their members to go on an Honor Flight trip. The Indy Honor Flight is a program that allows a veteran to be escorted with someone to Washington D.C. to the memorial for the war they were apart of. We had to call the chairman of Indy Honor Flight to see how much it would cost to send someone on the trip. This was to know how much we will need to raise to send one of the members to D.C. Dale True is the chairman and he told us that I would cost around $1,000 dollars to send a person on this trip. So now we have to find a way to raise that much money so we can send a member of Woodland Terrace to D.C.
This week has been kind of interesting regarding the prom. We had to sketch out the layout for the flyers we are going to make this year. We decided to stick with the Cinco de Mayo theme so our sketch had a few different things revolving around that theme. The sketch didn't really have to be good but they just wanted us to give them an idea on what we wanted to say and what kind of pictures we might want to put on the flyer. We finished that on Tuesday and then came our meeting the next day. Caralee had a meeting so we met with Cole by ourselves. Cole is the guy who runs the place for the most part. Anything we want to do with the prom has to be approved by Cole. In the meeting we discussed what was on our letters and what we need to do regarding our sponsors. We also learned about what we need to do regarding the parking situation on prom day. We now need to talk to the bank near by and ask if we can use their parking lot. The next thing we need to do is finalize our sales pitch to potential sponsors and start to establish meetings with them to get money for the prom.
Last week we had our first official meeting with Caralee involving the Senior Prom. She gave us some copies of the budget they had last year. We also got a copy of the papers that had the sponsors on it to show everyone who donated something to the prom. We talked about some them ideas, such as Cinco de Mayo or Great Gatsby. We also talked about which sponsors to go after this year. Caralee told us to start with the sponsors they had last year mainly because there was a higher chance that they would say yes. Unfortunately, we have to replace one of our biggest sponsors in Sam's Club because they are going out of business on our side of town. We talked about maybe replacing them with Around the Corner Pub or maybe even Costco. So the main things we need to do is to come up with some new sponsors to go after, come up with an official date and time for the prom itself, and come up with new names for each level of donation a sponsor can fall under.
